Homemade dog food with fish: tips

Dog food with fish is delicious and healthy for our four-legged friends. As a component of homemade dog food, fish also provides your pet with valuable animal proteins and healthy fatty acids.

If you enjoy cooking, you may have tried your hand at homemade dog food. Fish offers a valuable alternative to meat, should you be in the mood for variety on your four-legged friend’s menu. But before you start cooking large quantities of seafood specialties for your dog, you should try them out to see if your pet likes them at all – not every dog likes the taste.

Homemade dog food with fish: safety first

For dog food with fish, the common varieties that also taste good to humans are suitable, such as salmon, tuna or trout. It is very important that you always feed fish only cooked. What’s also important when you use fish in your dog food: Make sure you remove all bones beforehand – after all, you don’t want your four-legged friend to get seriously injured by your lovingly prepared meal. Bones act like small needles and can lead to internal injuries if they are swallowed.

Recipe idea with fish: fish cakes for the dog

Fish cakes are suitable as a starter dish for homemade dog food with fish. For this you will need a pound of pollock fillet, a cup of milk, two wheat buns and a banana. Let the buns soak in the milk for a while and mash the banana with a fork. Then cook the pollock fillet in a little water and let it simmer for a few more minutes. Once the fish is cooked, chop it up and mix the pieces with the banana puree and the softened roll. Then form bite-sized meatballs from the pulp, which you can easily feed to your four-legged friend.

Rice and fish – also a good combination for dogs

Mix about 250 grams of cooked fish fillet with equal parts of cooked rice and half a liter of water. For the extra portion of vegetables, you can add a piece of celeriac and two carrots. Make sure that you serve the dog meal only when it has cooled down and your furry nose can no longer burn itself.
