Adopt English bulldog from shelter

The fact that the English Bulldog has become a fashionable dog in recent years is not always to its advantage. She is a loving little fellow, but by no means an animal for everyone. Unfortunately, it therefore happens again and again that a sweet four-legged friend of this breed ends up in the shelter.

Mostly this is because the owner has not informed himself sufficiently about the dog breed, but has been guided by its appearance or just a fashion trend. After a few months he then finds out that the character of the dog does not suit him at all, or his pet costs him too much. Who wants to take an English Bulldog from the shelter with him, should therefore be quite sure that he can give him a nice home for life.

Common reasons for relinquishment at the shelter

For some dog owners, the English Bulldog simply becomes too expensive. Overbreeding in recent decades has resulted in many animals developing hereditary diseases and spinal problems, and allergies can cause them to need expensive special food.

The wrinkles in their skin can also make them prone to skin diseases, especially in the summer. High costs for vet, medications and special food, while not necessary, can come your way and should therefore be planned for. Also the character of the lovable, but to stubbornness tending dog says not everyone.

Adopt English bulldog from the shelter: Tips

If you would like to adopt an English Bulldog from a shelter, you should look for a reputable facility in your area. You can recognize a good animal shelter, among other things, by the fact that the employees treat the animal residents lovingly, take a lot of time for you as a visitor and give you expert advice. Ask questions about the animals and, if you want to adopt an English Bulldog, also inquire about the reasons why the respective pelt-nose is in the shelter. A reputable shelter will also ask questions about you and your circumstances, or will be interested in where their residents go. More information and tips on the subject can be found in the guide: “Dog from the shelter: What you should look out for”.

Before the adoption: Inform exactly about the breed

Apart from the fact that the English Bulldog is usually a fine little guy with a unique character, you should really inform yourself well about it and its needs. Raising an English Bulldog is not difficult, yet it requires some sensitivity. Sometimes the sweet four-legged friend just needs to think a little bit about whether it is really worth it for him to comply with a request, or whether he would rather “play the clown”. More about the attitude, care and nutrition of the lovable dog, you can read, among other things, in the guide: “Buy English Bulldog: Tips”.

Against violence and coercion, the sensitive animal is very sensitive and suffers a lot. Therefore, she needs a loving home, with patient and dog-experienced people. Also, her owner should be able to come to terms with the fact that she occasionally makes herself known by snorting and snoring, because this sometimes happens with the cozy English Bulldog.
