Cooking dog food yourself: Delicious with rice

If you cook dog food yourself, you should make sure that your dog gets a varied and balanced diet. To the protein sources, such as meat and fish, you can add rice as a supplement. Here are two delicious recipe ideas for it.

Can a dog eat rice at all? As far as this question is concerned, there is uncertainty among many dog owners. The reason: rice contains carbohydrates and these play a minor role in the diet of carnivorous animals.

But in fact, rice is suitable for dogs. It is as high-quality food for animals as it is for us humans: Rice is rich in vitamins, minerals and other nutrients such as iron, zinc or magnesium.

Feeding rice to the dog as a special diet

Especially when dogs are struggling with diarrhea or gastrointestinal problems, rice is a suitable food. This is because the small grains are easily digestible. They are gluten-free and belong to the good cereals. If you feed your dog rice for digestive problems, they will be alleviated quickly and gently.

Rice and dogs: It’s all about the quantity

The only question that remains is: How much rice is actually good for the dog? Similar to most other foods, it all comes down to moderation. Keep in mind that four-legged friends are primarily carnivores and need protein above all. Carbohydrates, which are also contained in rice, they can metabolize more difficult.

So rice is not suitable as the sole food for the dog. For this reason, you should only feed the small grains to your pet in moderation. An excess of carbohydrates can lead to obesity.

From time to time, however, there is nothing wrong with rice in dog food. It’s best to mix it with the right amount of meat and vegetables to give your dog a balanced meal – as is the case with the following two recipes.

Note: The following dishes are suitable for a medium-sized dog weighing approximately 25 kilograms. If you have a smaller or larger dog, you should adjust the amount of ingredients.
