Friendly and alert: The Giant Schnauzer

The Giant Schnauzer is a dog with a remarkable size and a special character. Clever, impetuous and affectionate as he is, it will be everything with him but never boring.

With his multi-faceted nature, the Giant Schnauzer is certainly not a dog for everyone. However, in the hands of owners who are well acquainted with the peculiarities and needs of this beautiful breed, he is a reliable companion and a wonderful friend for the whole family.

Loyal family dog with lots of energy

Under the right housing conditions, the usually quite self-confident Giant Schnauzer shows itself to be very balanced. Towards his favorite people he is affectionate, gentle, sensitive and loves his caresses very much. However, he never forgets his own head. He is a loyal animal, who likes a life with close family connection very much. He is also good with children – but when living with small children, his size and sometimes somewhat impetuous nature should never be forgotten. It is important that you train the quadruped well – tips for this can be found in the guidebook: “Giant Schnauzer erziehen: A challenge”.

Smart animal that needs variety

The Giant Schnauzer is highly intelligent. Teaching him something is a joy, because he understands at lightning speed. He also brings a lot of stamina, is nimble, playful and loves to run. This special character, coupled with his need for exercise, ensure that the dog needs a task and a lot of variety to be happy. It is therefore essential that you challenge and encourage your Giant Schnauzer not only physically, but also mentally. You can find tips on species-appropriate husbandry in our guidebook: “Giant Schnauzer: How to keep the bundle of energy”.

A good watchdog for house and yard

Even if the Giant Schnauzer is usually not particularly interested in strangers: If you enter the property for which he feels responsible, that changes. If you get a Giant Schnauzer, you also get a good watchdog. Not only his size inspires respect, but also his sharp senses, thanks to which nothing escapes him. Even beyond that, he has a lot of talents due to his smart, agile nature and can be used in a variety of tasks as a service dog.
