Samoyed: Such is the character of the dog

The beautiful, white Samoyed belongs to a sled dog breed. His character is friendly, lively and outgoing, but sometimes a little stubborn. He likes to be with his people and needs a lot of exercise and activity to be happy.

The urge to move and the will to work are also part of the Samoyed character. Originally, the dog breed was bred as a sled dog in Siberia, but it was also used as a herding dog for reindeer herds, helper in hunting and as a companion dog. His guarding instinct and hunting instinct are usually kept within limits, but he certainly has a mind of his own. With loving and consistent dog training, he still makes a good family dog.

The Samoyed: Friendly, sociable and playful
Just as friendly as the fluffy dog looks, he usually is. Towards humans he is affectionate and open-minded. He likes to be everywhere and being shy is not his style. The Samoyed is very versatile and intelligent, brave and normally not aggressive at all. However, he should be treated according to his nature: Mental and physical exercise ensure that the lively four-legged friend does well with his owners. The better the Samoyed is exercised, the happier he is.

This is true for every dog, but it is especially true for the Samoyed, because he can show a lot of endurance. As a working animal, the Samoyed used to have many different tasks – and so it is still fun for him when he can enjoy varied occupation. Extended walks, games, intelligence tasks and dog sports he masters with flying colors, but he can also be trained as a working dog. Due to his human orientation and his friendly character he is then also a wonderful family dog.

Does the Samoyed have a hunting instinct?
According to the breed standard, the Samoyed should not have a hunting instinct, but it cannot be completely ruled out that he has partially retained this instinct. However, this tendency is usually only noticeable if your Samoyed has not been sufficiently socialized, has not been exercised and has not been trained consistently enough.
