Cooking dog food yourself: Delicious recipes

If you don’t want to buy conventional food for your four-legged friend for health or financial reasons, you can cook dog food yourself. Ideas for delicious recipes and tips for the preparation you get here.

If you really want to be one hundred percent sure that only high-quality food ends up in your four-legged friend’s bowl, you have to cook the dog food yourself. This way, you have full control over the ingredients.

Advantages of homemade food

Classic dog food often comes with too many carbohydrates as a cheap filler. It is much healthier if you cook dog food yourself. Also, if you value sustainable production of pet food, you would do well to prepare it yourself. For example, you can make sure that all ingredients have been grown or produced in an ecological way – from meat to treats.

As a good base for all recipes, it is important that the quality of the ingredients is impeccable. A good mix of meat or fish, healthy carbohydrates and vegetables for vitamins is important. As a general rule, beef and lamb can be fed raw – but that depends on your dog’s taste. Game and poultry you should cook.

Cooking your own dog food with chicken or beef
For normally active dogs, you can try recipes like this: Prepare lean chicken or beef. The ingredients for a larger dog around 30 kilograms:

● 250 grams of fresh beef or chicken.
● 250 grams of oatmeal
● 25 milliliters of safflower oil

You can cook the beef briefly or feed it raw – if fresh from the butcher. You should process the chicken meat better cooked. Boil the oatmeal briefly with twice the amount of water and wait until both ingredients have cooled down to at least lukewarm. Now mix everything together and add the oil. Wait until the home-cooked dog meal has cooled down completely and serve the feast to your four-legged darling.

Lungs and rice for active dogs
For this dog food recipe, you will need fresh beef lung. Here is the overview of all the ingredients, adjusting the quantities depending on the size and weight of your dog:

● 250 grams of beef lung
● 125 grams of round grain rice
● 1 carrot
● 1 cored apple
● 1 tablespoon olive oil

Cut the lung into bite-sized pieces and boil the meat together with the rice in a 250 milliliters of water for about twenty minutes. Chop the carrot and apple with a blender and add a tablespoon of olive oil. Mix all the ingredients together and feed your dog when the dish has cooled completely.

Make your own dog biscuits
Many recipes can be prepared in no time, including dog biscuits, for example. For the most part, you will surely have the ingredients for the food at home:

● 150 grams of curd
● 200 grams of ground high-quality dog flakes
● 1 egg yolk
● 6 tablespoons of sunflower oil
● 6 tablespoons of lactose-free milk

Everything ready? Then mix the ingredients well and form them into small balls. No more preparation is needed. The dog biscuit must now bake in the oven at 200 degrees for about half an hour. Again, serve only when cooled.
